Google Pages ...

Well they did it - here is Google pages - and frankly I am disapointed.

Why? It is from Google, were is the inovation? Were is the difference? If I was Google I would offer dynamic content, rss, Groups intergration, orkut intergration, custom urls - in otherwords not just another geocities.

I might just keep what I have to play around with - it is 100mb of space, but really - I would rather code it myself.

Digg Story> Space elevator now one step closer to reality

Just saw this on Digg, to be honest it seems a bit impractical and they are a long way off ... but bellow is my comment on Digg and the actuall story text :)

Comment: How would they keep the thing straight in the air? If the end in space was not effected by gravity it could hold the cable up but one would presume that it would orbit the earth - meaning that the earth would be wraped in this huge cable :0

Digg: A slim cable for a space elevator has been built stretching a mile into the sky, enabling robots to scrabble some way up and down the line. A private US company on a quest to build a space elevator by April 2018, stretched the strong carbon ribbon 1 mile (1.6 km) into the sky from the Arizona desert .

Although now I see my thoughts prove wrong, see the other points there :D

Google Talk Updates

[smile] [frown] [tongue][grin] are just some of the emoticons I recently noticed when using the Google Talk client within Gmail - this comes at a bit of a surprise as I would have expected then to keep their method which they used in Google Talk of just making the emoticon blue, like :D but it seems Google might be looking towards being a little bit more modern in their emoticons dept.

I saw a while back a 'preview' of a new version of Google Talk which would offer avitars, but unless I have missed something that feature is not out yet - so prehaps we are going to get a brand new version of Google Talk soonish?

What I would expect from what I have seen:
  • 'Real' emoticons - while still keeping it simple
  • The AOL intergration
  • Avitars
  • File transfer - this comes from the fact that they Google Talk protical can now support the p2p of files ...
“Today Google released an update to Libjingle. Part of this update is code for a new “tunnel” session type that allows TCP-like data to be transferred over the google talk network. This means that their library now supports file ...
So there you have it, oh, and we might just see some landline intergration - I cannot picture Google staying were it is with regards to that ...

Of another browser

I just downloaded Maxthon, used it for one minute, and exited - it seems like a nice idea for a browser but I think the default skin reminds me too much of Windows Explorer and it is baced on the IE engine, which sucks :( - so that is one browser I shall not be using for now - I like my FireFox extentions ... :P

Report on Songbird

Well I hav't posted for a while (again!), there seems to be a bit too much happening ... but I have been trying out Songbird a bit and here is what I have to say for it so far:
  • Needs to let you play music while offline ...
  • Needs DDR
  • Needs less bugs :P
Anyway, I do think that this is piece of software to watch ...

Of late posts and a new music player

I apologise for not posting for a while, life has been rather busy of late ...

I have just 'discovered' (thanks Digg) Songbird which is a new type of music player which has a browser built in ... still need to play around with it for a while but it seems very cool and all I want is video support (for my iPod ...)

I think that this player will cause people to rethink how they make a program - the world seems to be moving towards functionality, simplity, choice (ie not being locked in ...) and inovation.

Linux ... mabye Ubuntu isn't the way to go?

Well I was reading through this list of comments at Digg and someone mentioned Puppy Linux - so I headed over to take a look. This looks like a great distro to try and get me 'into linux' - I am hopeing that it has drivers, etc. so that I can get part the internet problems which have been plaging me with Ubuntu - that's the main reason I am still using windows!

Anyway - at just 55mb it should be finished within the next 2 hours, so let me try it out :D

DA: 'Oilgate, Travelgate ... where's Investigate?' : Mail & Guardian Online

I just read this article at the Mail & Guardian - and it brings to mind the question; why does the ANC have such a large majority and were is the accountablilty?

Let me explain - what I am saying is that when parties have to be truly worried about if they will be voted out in the next election (look at america - almost 50-50 votes) then they make a good effort to do a better job.And by having such a large majority of the nation voting for one party you begin to loose any sort of accountability, as described above.I am not supporting anyone here ;) just making a point ...

Of Ubuntu and Internet Explorer

Well after trying (in vain) to get my dialup to work again under linux I am back on the windows partition finding out more info - I have now found this . It has a whole pile of usefull guides which should hopefully get me going again on my mission to stop using windows. Now if I could get linux to connect to my school domain ...

And on IE; I installed it and have to say that it has a nice layout etc. - but everything there could just as easily be replicated and improved on in FireFox with extentions. CSS support still sucks ... so don't use IE!
